MIDTOWN FULTON BANK BRANCH TO RELOCATE TO GROWING CAMPUS DISTRICT AT N. 3RD & REILY

Harrisburg, PA – Congressman Tim Holden(PA-17), State Senator Jeff Piccola and Mayor Stephen R. Reed today announced that the Fulton Bank Branch Office at 1401 N. Third Street will be relocating one block north to the evolving Midtown Campus District at N. Third and Reily Streets. The new branch will be opposite the newly restored HACC Midtown II center and across the street from the now-under construction Campus Square Building.

Reed said midtown developers Powers & Associates have purchased both the bank’s current site and their new location at 1425-1427-1429 N. Third Street, and will be conducting the rehabilitation work for the new branch. Powers & Associates purchased the three properties from the city for $260,000, and will be conducting a $1 million renovation of the three-building, 8400 sq. ft. complex. An historic façade that complements the other development work in the neighborhood is planned for the building.

The Mayor said the new facility will be a state-of-the-art, high-tech banking center, and includes a drive-through window and an exterior ATM machine on Reily Street. Some rear portions of the site will be demolished to allow for the installation of the drive-through, and the street level will have store-front entrances.
Two upper floors with 5,400 sq. ft. of office space will also be available for commercial lease. As with all of their buildings, Powers & Associates’ will conduct a "green" rehabilitation that meets LEED Certification standards. Work is expected to begin in early 2009 and be completed by mid-summer.

"We are delighted with Fulton Bank’s continuing investment and service in the city," said Reed, "and are pleased they are making such a commitment in Midtown, which continues to grow with extensive new commercial, educational and residential development. If ever there were a tangible example of a rising tide carrying all ships, this is certainly one."

Congressman Tim Holden noted that "the transformation of Midtown is an amazing success story made possible by both public and private investment."

Senator Jeff Piccola(15th), who has been instrumental in securing state funding for various aspects of the Midtown development activities, said he "deeply appreciated the hard work and dedication of Powers & Associates and all those who are helping change Midtown into a point of destination for residents and visitors alike."

Reed said Powers & Associates plans to eventually integrate the existing 15,000 sq. ft. bank building at 1401 N. Third Street, which has historic value, into a larger commercial complex in the future, maintaining the structure’s architecturally significant exteriors. The building was originally built by the Keystone Trust Company.

Rob Jones, President of Fulton Bank’s Capital Division, said they are "thrilled to be moving to the new location and look forward to contributing to the vibrancy of Midtown and the new Campus District. We think our customers will be very pleased with the new facility, and our employees are extremely excited about the new technologies and expanded services we’ll be able to provide."

Jones said Fulton Bank has operated its Midtown branch office for nearly 40 years, and currently has four employees at the site who will be relocated to the new location. Long range plans call for the hiring of additional workers after the transfer has been completed.

In other recent Midtown development news, Powers & Associates Chief Executive Officer Doug Neidich said the firm has recently purchased the former Midtown Scholar Bookstore at 1519 N. Third Street from proprietors Eric Papenfuse and Catherine Lawrence, who are relocating their retail and websales operation to larger space farther south at 1302 N. Third Street. Powers & Associates plans to renovate the 3,200 sq. ft. structure for retail and professional office space.
