CITYS DEPARTMENT OF PARKS AND RECREATION RECEIVES DUAL AWARDS
Harrisburg, PA Mayor Stephen R. Reed today reported that the City has received two awards from the Pennsylvania Recreation & Park Society (PRPS) for excellence in programming.
Each of the awards, which will be presented on Tuesday, March 11, 2008, at the Seven Springs Mountain Resort in Champion, PA, recognize the outstanding programs of the Citys Department of Parks and Recreation last year. One award is for the Citys Summer Mural Project in Reservoir Park. The other award honors the Citys Black History Enrichment Series.
"The City of Harrisburgs Department of Parks and Recreation has one of the most extensive year-round programs of any municipality in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania," said Mayor Reed. "Last years mural project in Reservoir Park became an instant success and has prompted the planning of several similar projects in the coming seasons."
Reed also added that the Citys Black History Enrichment Series is a unique group of programs and performances that is unlike any other in the region.
"We are honored that the Pennsylvania Recreation and Park Society has recognized the City and its Department of Parks and Recreation for these efforts."
Founded in 1935, the PRPS is the principal state organization promoting safe and quality recreation and park training, networking and leadership opportunities for those in the field. The non-profit organizations membership base ranges from individuals who manage municipal park systems to college and university professors and students to the staffs of privately-operated recreational facilities.
