STREET FLOODING CLOSES MULTIPLE STREETS IN CITY

Mayor Stephen R. Reed reported this afternoon that the strong storm cells that passed over the city, dumping much rain in a short time, has caused extensive street flooding in multiple areas – that will take hours to dissipate before streets can be reopened.

Some major corridors, such as Cameron Street from Market to Paxton Streets, are closed. A large downed tree is also blocking a portion of the 1200 block of S. Cameron Street.

19th Street at Bellevue St. and Sycamore St. is flooded, along with 15th and Berryhill Sts., 2nd and Vine Sts., 18th and Derry Sts., and Cameron and Hanover Sts. Many of these are major traffic corridors, especially at rush hour.

On Sunday, the Paxton Creek Flood Warning System was activated and some streets were closed due to flooding, including Cameron and Maclay Streets.

Reed said major traffic detouring late this afternoon, to avoid flooded streets, will cause delay in commuter traffic movement. He said the city is on alert for river and creek flooding later this week with expected additional rainfall.
