THE OFFICE OF MAYOR STEPHEN R. REED |
FOR IMMEDIATE USE |
1 KILLED, 5 INJURED IN OVERNIGHT SHOOTING AT ROEBUCK’S BARMayor Stephen R. Reed this afternoon reported that one person is dead and five others, including four wounded by gunfire, were injured during an early morning shooting in front of Roebuck’s Bar near N. 6th and Harris Streets. Police are currently looking for at least one suspect. Reed said the deceased man is identified as 21-year old Joseph W. Seegars, of the 300 block of Maclay Street, who died at Hershey Medical Center from a gunshot wound to the neck. Also injured by gunshots but with non-life threatening wounds were 26-year old Ali Barabbas, of the 500 block of N. 14th Street – 1 gsw to back; 27-year old David L. Burnett, of the 300 block of Maclay Street – 1 gsw to shoulder; 19-year old Erica Grier, of the 1500 block of N. 15th Street – 1 gsw to buttocks; and 26-year old Barry Burnett, of the 2400 block of N. 4th Street – 1 gsw to wrist and 1 gsw to buttocks. 25-year old Ieisha N. Jackson, of Hall Manor, sustained injuries from punches to the face but no gunshot injuries. Except for Jackson, all of the victims are believed to be related, possibly as cousins. The Mayor said initial witness reports indicate a fight broke out between two groups of women inside Roebuck’s Bar, in the 1500 block of N. 6th Street, around 1:30 a.m. The melee involved at least eight individuals and was eventually pushed out into the street in front of the bar, where it continued for at least several more minutes. Several other patrons and passers-by were attempting to pull the combatants apart when gunfire broke out, with as many as 10 to 12 shots being fired. Witness reports indicate the primary shooter is a black male, thinly built, approximately 5’3” tall and was wearing a white baseball cap, a green hooded jacket with white and yellow stripes on the sleeves and wheat-colored Timberline boots. He was last seen running west on Harris Street and responding units searched for him unsuccessfully. Police have yet to confirm that there may also have been a second shooter involved, who was firing back at the initial shooter from across the street. No weapons were recovered. Reed said police believe the fight began when a woman from one group was dancing and bumped into or otherwise annoyed a woman from the second group. Fisticuffs then broke out between the two women, with others from each of the two groups joining in. The Mayor said police continue to try and identify all of the combatants in the earlier fight, of which many were reported to be underage and thus fled the scene when the gunfire erupted. The Mayor said an intensive investigation remains underway, with detectives working around the clock to identify and capture the suspect. Anyone with information about the incident is urged to call city police at (717) 255.3131. |
