CITY ISLAND REOPENS FOR VISITORS; SOME RESTORATION WORK REMAINS

Harrisburg, PA—Mayor Stephen R. Reed today announced that City Island is open to visitors starting at 5:00 p.m. today for the first time since the Tropical Storm Ivan Flood in September.

While all two major parking lots and parking garage opened within days of the flood, all other areas and facilities were closed as a result of extensive flood damage.

Nearly all areas of the Island’s northern half, where the sports and major recreational facilities are located, are reopened areas. A few sites remain off-limits and have temporary fencing around them because grading, reseeding and other work needs to yet be done at those sites.

Electricity has been restored. Some replacement lights for a deck area and the Harbourtown play area have not yet been received and will be installed later.

There is still some remaining work to be done at Commerce Bank Park, the baseball stadium, but the facility is largely back in operating condition.
