2004 HARRISBURG HOLIDAY PARADE PLANNING UNDERWAY; ENTRANTS NOW INVITED TO REGISTERHarrisburg, PA—Mayor Stephen R. Reed today invited area bands, organizations, groups, businesses and individuals to register now for the upcoming Harrisburg Holiday Parade, slated for Saturday, November 20, beginning at 10:00 a.m. in the downtown. The theme for this year’s Holiday Parade is “Favorite Holiday Stories”. Started by the Mayor in 1986, the Harrisburg Holiday Parade has grown to become the largest Thanksgiving/Christmas/Hanukkah Holiday parade in the state, and offers over $7,000 in prize monies to entries in six different parade categories. More than 2,500 marchers participated in the parade and over 45,000 spectators lined downtown streets for the 90-minute extravaganza in 2003. Reed said the city Department of Parks and Recreation, which coordinates the Holiday Parade and many other major city special events, is now accepting applications for 2004 Parade entrants and all are invited to participate. “Whether it be as a corporate sponsor for large helium balloons, a high school band, private dance troupe, or non-profit or business group with a float, there are a variety of ways that the public can participate and compete for the generous cash prize awards,” said the Mayor. Reed said persons and groups interested in participating in the 2004 Harrisburg Holiday Parade will find comprehensive information and registration details online at www.HarrisburgEvents.com, or call (717) 255-3020. Persons, groups and businesses interested in becoming a parade sponsor, or providing volunteer balloon handlers, should contact the Department of Parks and Recreation’s Marketing Manager Gloria Giambalvo at (717) 255.3020. The registration deadline is October 15, 2004. XXX |
