MOLLY BRANNIGANS CELEBRATES GRAND OPENING; MAJOR NEW IRISH EATERY NOW OPEN IN DOWNTOWNHarrisburg, PA—Mayor Stephen R. Reed today conducted grand opening services for the new Molly Brannigans Restaurant and Pub at 31 N. 2nd Street in downtown Harrisburg. The distinctive new dining facility offers traditional Irish fare set amidst an authentic pub atmosphere. Reed said the new Molly Brannigans is the result of significant private investment by principals Russ Stachewicz, John Melody and Colm McWilliams, who launched the first Molly Brannigans in Erie in 2002, where they also operate the Cornerstone Bar and Grill. The trio undertook extensive renovations of three buildings to create the new dining attraction in center city Harrisburg, which has dual entrances at 204 Walnut Street and 31 N. 2nd Street. The Mayor said the new restaurant has been built as an authentic Irish Pub, with the bar, backbar, crystal and many of its furnishings having actually been brought from Ireland, with much of it dating back to the 19th Century. Irish craftsmen were brought to the U.S. to do much of the work, which is highlighted by an upscale façade and an interior accented by brick and lighting. The restaurant and pub seat two-hundred and provides seventy new jobs. “This project does many things,” said Mayor Reed. “It shows the adaptive reuse of older buildings, brings a dose of Old Ireland to the city and region, and splendidly adds to the smorgasboard of attractions in Harrisburg’s downtown. It has already garnered significant patronage and is a big hit with the public and visitors because of its first rate amenities, service, menu and convenience.” Reed said Molly Brannigans’ menu features both traditional Irish foods and dishes, such as bangers and mash and shepherd’s pie, as well as conventional fare such as seafoods and steaks.
