Reed today reported that $380,252 in grants from the city to various community-based organizations have been awarded to support facilities and services to the homeless, neighborhoods and youth activities. Shalom House, a provider of shelter services to the displaced, received $61,037, with $3,500 for electrical system repairs and upgrades to their facilities and the rest of the money going to cover shelter operating costs. Christian Churches United is allocated $57,000, also for shelter services. The Mt. Pleasant Hispanic American Center received $53,360 for renovations, including electrical system upgrades, to their Allison Hill facility where a variety of neighborhood services are based. The Pride of the Neighborhood Academy is allocated $10,585 for building rehabilitation work. The Academy provides preschool and other youth educational programs. The Camp Curtin YMCA has $16,000 for facility upgrades, including lighting system renovations. The Hamilton Health Center is receiving $87,000 for interior facility renovations, new fencing and exterior siding for their 1650 Walnut Street neighborhood health center. Reed said all the grants were awarded through a competitive application process utilizing performance and capacity criteria. “We well know that government alone cannot be the sole resolution to the needs of a community. It takes good partners who develop expertise in targeted areas of activity. We are pleased to support them with these resources,” Reed said. XXX |
