99 City Intersections Getting Energy Efficient Traffic Signals; Providing Brighter Lights & Lower Costs

Mayor Stephen R. Reed today announced that all 99 signalized intersections throughout the City of Harrisburg are receiving state-of-the-art technology that will reduce energy costs by 90%, cut maintenance and replacement costs by 80%, while providing brighter, easier to see signals.

Hgb. School District Offers Free Adult Computer Education Classes To City Residents

Mayor Stephen R. Reed today announced that the Harrisburg School District will be offering a series of free computer education classes for adult city residents beginning September 1 and continuing through November 3. Interested city residents should register for the program immediately as limited class space is available. The classes are conducted by Harrisburg School District Technology Trainer Kelly Unger, who has also produced a comprehensive video series on computer skills training program which will air on WHBG TV-20.

Grants For Homeless & Community Services Announced

Mayor Stephen R. Reed today reported that $380,252 in grants from the city to various community-based organizations have been awarded to support facilities and services to the homeless, neighborhoods and youth activities.

Elderly Woman Dies In Fire

Mayor Stephen R. Reed tonight reported that an 80-year woman died of burn and smoke injuries in a general alarm fire at 2218 N. 3rd Street.
