PHILADELPHIA 76ERS SUMMER HOOPS TOUR COMES TO HARRISBURG FOR CITY RECREATION PROGRAM

Harrisburg, PA – Mayor Stephen R. Reed today announced that the Philadelphia 76ers ‘Sixers Summer Hoops Tour’ will be in Harrisburg on Monday, July 26, at the Manny Weaver Gym at Rowland School, 19th and Derry Streets, for a special basketball skills program. The program begins at 1:00 p.m. and is free and open to city youth participating in the city’s Summer Recreation Program.

Reed said the special program will feature former NBA star World B. Free, along with various Sixers staff, including television analyst Marc Zumoff, announcer Matt Cord, mascot Hip Hoop, and the Sixers Summer Hoops Tour Coaching staff, who will conduct drills and other skills training.

The Mayor said the Sixers Summer Hoops Tour is a series of free basketball clinics designed to teach and reinforce the fundamentals of basketball. Participants are led by World B. Free through a series of drills and games that combine fun and basketball skills education. Begun in 1996, the Tour stops at forty-one different sites in Pennsylvania and New Jersey, and reaches nearly 10,000 youth.

Reed said the Sixers Summer Hoops Tour is but one of a series of fun, educational events and activities produced by the City as part of its annual Summer Enrichment Program. Coordinated by the city’s Parks and Recreation Department, the expansive youth program involves daily activities at the city’s sixteen playground sites and three swimming facilities.
