MAYOR RECOGNIZES GERMAN POLICE OFFICER FOR CONTRIBUTION TO COW PARADE; PROCEEDS TO BENEFIT CITY POLICE YOUTH ACTIVITIESHarrisburg, PA—The popular Cow Parade public art initiative was highlighted today as Mayor Stephen R. Reed recognized the contributions of Detective Antje Freudenberg of Adendorf, Germany, who sponsored ‘Maxi’ the ‘KlitschCow’, which is on display in Riverfront Park. ‘Maxi’ was painted by well known midstate artist Patricia Brinjac and is dedicated to professional boxers Vladimir and Vitaly Klitschko of Russia, whom Freudenberg has supported since their earliest days in boxing. Reed today presented Freudenberg with an Honorary Citizenship from the City of Harrisburg, along with other city memorabilia and mementos in honor of her visit and generosity, and named her an honorary member of the Harrisburg Bureau of Police. A police officer since 1982, Freudenberg was recently promoted to the rank of homicide detective, becoming one of the few female homicide detectives in Germany. Freudenberg grew up watching Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier boxing matches, with her parents often letting her stay up late into the early morning hours to watch their live bouts. She first discovered the Klitschko brothers in 2002, and has been a huge fan of the battling brothers ever since. The Mayor said Freudenberg paid for the purchase and painting of the whimsical cow, which, along with the other 135 cows, will be auctioned at the end of June at the Farm Show Complex. Fruedenberg is donating her share of the cow’s auction proceeds to city youth activities in Harrisburg. XXX |
