COUNTRY MUSIC STARS ‘TRICK PONY’ TO PLAY AT CITY’S AMERICAN MUSICFEST OVER JULY 4TH WEEKEND

Harrisburg, PA—Mayor Stephen R. Reed today announced that country music superstars Trick Pony, and new rock sensations, Fountains of Wayne, have been signed as headlining acts for the Comcast Star Stage during the American MusicFest, slated for July 3–5, 2004, along the Harrisburg waterfront.

Reed said Trick Pony has set the country music industry on fire with their high-energy honky-tonk style of music. The band has produced two number one and two top ten country music hits, a Gold Record, and has been recognized as the “Favorite New Country Artist” by the American Music Awards, and the “Top New Vocal Group” by the Academy of Country Music. Trick Pony and opening band Little Buddy will appear for one show only on Monday, July 5, starting at 6:00 p.m.

Exploding onto the Pop/Rock scene in 2003, the Mayor said Fountains of Wayne are on their way up and were recognized by Entertainment Weekly’s Top 100 most creative people in entertainment. The band’s third album received top reviews from media all over the country, including Spin, The New York Post and Q Magazine. The New York City-based group gained international distinction when its Top 40 single “Stacey’s Mom” reached number one on VH1’s Top Twenty Videos. Fountains of Wayne and opening acts Robbers on High and the Jellybricks perform on Saturday, July 3, beginning at 4:30 p.m.

Reed said tickets for each event are $15 per person, and will go on sale May 14 at all Ticketmaster locations, including the Boscov’s Customer Service Ticket Center, or by calling (717) 260.2000, or online at www.ticketmaster.com.

The Mayor said Harrisburg’s American MusicFest is the city’s traditional July Fourth Holiday salute to our nation’s founding, and has become Central Pennsylvania’s largest annual music festival. Slated for July 3-6, this year’s American MusicFest will feature 90 different artists on stages located throughout Riverfront Park, City Island and the downtown. In addition to non-stop music, the festival features international foods, an expanded Children’s Village sponsored by Belco Community Credit Union, and the popular Citizens Bank Crabfest on City Island.

New this year will be nightly fireworks, with the grand finale show slated for Monday evening July 5, beginning at 9:00 p.m.

Proceeds from the American MusicFest support the city’s year-round youth recreation programs and activities.
