Harrisburg Receives ‘Growth Award’, And Named Tree City USA For Seventeenth Consecutive Year 100 New Tree Plantings Mark City Arbor Day Observances

Mayor Stephen R. Reed and Acting State Forester Edward T. Dix of the state Department of Conservation and Natural Resources today helped mark the city’s designation for the seventeenth consecutive year as a Tree City USA by planting seventeen new trees in Reservoir Park, and announcing plans for the planting of another one hundred trees in various city neighborhoods. The planting project was part of the city’s annual observances of National Arbor Day, whose governing body, the National Arbor Day Foundation, also presented the city with its prestigious ‘Growth Award’.

Mayor Announces 2nd Season For Levitt Performing Arts Series In Restored Reservoir Park Bandshell; All Concerts Free To Public

Mayor Stephen R. Reed today announced the artists’ roster and dates for the second annual Levitt Pavilion Performing Arts Series, slated for June 4 through August 28, at the newly-restored Levitt Pavilion for the Performing Arts in Reservoir Park. The Mayor also kicked off the new “Walk of Stars”, a commemorative brick walkway fundraising campaign which will create a nearly 3,000-foot walkway around the newly-restored Levitt Pavilion.

2nd Annual PNC Saturdays Summer Celebrations Announced

Mayor Stephen R. Reed and officials from the Harrisburg Downtown Improvement District Authority (HDIDA) announced today that the 2nd annual PNC Saturdays free summer concert series is slated for center city Harrisburg on Market Square. Joined by many sponsors, volunteers and coordinators of the popular downtown entertainment series, Reed and HDIDA chairman Geoffrey McDowell said the PNC Saturdays events will be held on the following Saturdays: May 8, June 5, July 10 and August 14 from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. on each date.

Mayor Urges ‘YES’ Vote On Ballot Question On State Funding For Water Projects

Mayor Stephen R. Reed today urged area voters to vote yes on an important ballot question that will authorize $250 million in state funding for water and wastewater improvement projects. The question will appear on ballots in next Tuesday’s Primary Election.

New Parking Keys & Nighttime Garage Passes Make City Parking More Convenient & Affordable

Mayor Stephen R. Reed and the Harrisburg Parking Authority (HPA) today announced several convenient and affordable new ways for visitors and workers to park at city parking meters and in downtown garages. The innovative new parking programs includes a pre-purchased “cash key” that eliminates the need for quarters and allows for the use of on-street meters with the simple push of the key. Another component is a special new $50 monthly parking pass for use in city garages between the hours of 4:00 p.m. and 8:00 a.m.
