REED ORDERS START-UP OF POTHOLE HOTLINE

Harrisburg, PA—Mayor Stephen R. Reed has announced that the City’s Pothole Hotline will become operational on Monday, March 1. The number for the hotline is 255.3050. This is the nineteenth year in a row that the Mayor has established a pothole hotline.

The Mayor said Department of Public Works crews have already been repairing some potholes, but having citizens notify the city of other locations would be helpful.

Reed said locations reported through the hotline will be recorded by the hotline operator, who will provide the information to public works crews. Records will be kept as to the date the complaint was received, personnel dispatched to perform the repairs and the date the work was actually completed.

Because the hotline is being implemented before the final threat of snow has passed, weather will be a factor in response time, Reed said. Callers should be aware that in the event of snow, public works crews and equipment dispatched to perform salting or snow removal duties will not resume pothole work until their other duties are finished.

Callers are also asked to keep in mind that some streets or sections of streets in the city are actually the responsibility of the state Dept. of Transportation for repair. Potholes in these areas should be reported to PennDOT at 787.5391.
