1100 S. CAMERON STREET DEDICATED; CONTEMPORARY NEW OFFICE BUILDING OCCUPIES LONG VACANT SITE AT CAMERON AND SYCAMORE STREETSHarrisburg, PA—Mayor Stephen R. Reed today conducted the grand opening for the newly-constructed 1100 S. Cameron Street office building, located at the strategic intersection of South Cameron and Sycamore Streets in south Harrisburg. The new multi-million dollar office center will house a variety of local social and human service agencies, including the Dauphin County Executive Commission on Drugs and Alcohol, Inc., the Dauphin County Mental Health/Mental Retardation Case Management Unit, Inc., and Northwestern Human Services. Mayor Reed said the intriguing new structure was built by property owner Hoffer Properties, and reflects a modern architectural style, with soaring steel beams, expansive tinted-glassworks and a massive stone wall, featuring Pennsylvania mined stonework. The new state-of-the-art office center occupies 41,400 41,400 square feet of space and will immediately house over 150 employees. On-site parking is also provided for up to 175 vehicles. Reed said the new office complex sits on what had been a long vacant tract of land. The site is a brownfields site that had been acquired by the city after a previous private owner had abandoned buildings and left behind buried debris and poor soil. The city obtained grant funds to tear down the structures and clean-up the parcel, making it ready for the subsequent development dedicated today. The strategically located site sits along public transportation routes and is nearby to the PA Department of Transportation Licensing Center, just two blocks to the west. “1100 S. Cameron Street is an exciting new to one of the city’s main thoroughfares,” said Mayor Stephen R. Reed, “and our appreciation is appropriately extended to Norm Hoffer and Hoffer Properties for the significant private investment this distinctive new structure represents.” The Mayor noted that the privately-owned building is on the taxrolls, even though the majority of its tenants are non-profit oriented agencies. Hoffer Properties principal Norm Hoffer said: “1100 S. Cameron Street is a signature property on Harrisburg’s main business corridor, and we look forward to many years of growth and opportunity at this excellent location. We’ve created what we feel is a very architecturally appealing and inspiring building that really captures the public’s attention. We’re delighted to be here.” Hoffer said the new office center is hallmarked by its sweeping entrance area, which utilizes a massive stone wall made of sandstone boulders mined near Dubois, Pennsylvania. Inside the building, traditional hardwall offices combine with open office space with flexible workstations to infuse nearly every work area with natural daylight. The building was constructed by Lee. A. Hoffer Co. XXX |
