ADDITIONAL TRAFFIC SIGNALS OUT; PARTIAL BUILDING COLLAPSE, DAMAGE IN CITY PARKS NOTED

Harrisburg, PA—Mayor Stephen R. Reed this morning reported that in addition to the eleven intersections earlier reported to have no functioning traffic signals, two more have now become inoperative

  • N. Cameron and Herr Streets
  • N. Front and Maclay Streets

Additionally, as residents have awakened this morning and as businesses and property owners begin to assess damage, a significant number of additional reports of damage, downed trees and power lines, and other effects of Tropical Storm Isabel are flowing in. One involves the partial collapse of a structure at 129 Balm Street in the Allison Hill Section, apparently caused by high winds and driving rain.

Further, after dawn when things could be more easily seen, various city parks were found to have sustained damage, including on City Island, involving downed trees, power lines, lights, signage, fences and damage to structures. Some recreational programs may have to be relocated or postponed as a result.
