MARINES RETURNING SATURDAY, WILL GET CITY ESCORT

Harrisburg, PA—U.S. Marines in Echo Company, 2nd Battalion, 25th Marines, will return to Harrisburg from Iraq tomorrow, Saturday, August 2nd.

Mayor Stephen R. Reed has instructed city police units to provide a full escort to the four buses expected to reach the Second Street exit of Interstate 83 around 11:00 a.m. The Mayor has also assigned city fire apparatus to accompany the troops. The vehicle convoy will travel north on Second Street to the Marine Reserve Center at 2991 N. Second Street without stopping. Escort vehicles will use their lights and sirens.

Two city aerial fire towers will be raised over S. Second and Vine Streets and will hold a large U.S. flag as part of the welcome.

At the Marine Reserve Center, the 2900 block of Green Street will be blocked to normal vehicle traffic. No parking signs will be posted in the 3000 blocks of both N. Second Street and Green Street to accommodate vehicles of family members who will be on hand to greet the Marines.

“Echo Company has been in harm’s way in service to their country. As Reservists, they disrupted their lives to go. As they return to families and their communities, they have the thanks of a grateful nation for their service, sacrifice, courage and skill,” Reed said.
