Public Meeting Scheduled For Tuesday, July 29 To Outline Success Of Weed & Seed Program Efforts

Reed today announced that a special public meeting will be held on Tuesday, July 29, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Rowland School Gymnasium at 19th and Derry Streets, to update local citizens on neighborhood improvement activities being conducted in conjunction with the city’s South Allison Hill-based Weed and Seed program.

Upgraded Levitt Performing Arts Pavilion Dedicated
Mayor Stephen R. Reed today conducted dedication services for the newly-restored and upgraded Levitt Performing Arts Pavilion in Reservoir Park. First built in the 1940’s, the popular bandshell has undergone $250,000 in upgrades thanks to a grant from noted philanthropist Mortimer Levitt of New York City, and is now in the midst of the inaugural season of the Levitt Performing Arts Pavilion Summer Concert Series, which features free live entertainment every Wednesday through Saturday evening through September.

Harrisburg will host the prestigious National Minority Women’s Health Forum on Saturday, September 6, at the Harrisburg Hilton and Towers, Mayor Stephen R. Reed today announced. The City of Harrisburg website at www.harrisburgcity.com has been selected as Pennsylvania’s Web Destination of the Day by the About Pennsylvania Internet site run by Kessler Freedman Inc., Mayor Stephen R. Reed today announced. Considered one of the most extensive municipal websites in the nation, Harrisburg’s internet site has had more than 455,000 visits since its official launch in mid-2002.

Italian Lake Alligator Caught
Mayor Stephen R. Reed this evening announced that the young alligator living in Italian Lake was caught this evening by a professional fisherman retained by the city. The approximately 2-year old alligator will be temporarily housed at the Dauphin County Animal Rehab Shelter until he can be permanently placed in a new home.

Supreme Court Rules In Favor Of New Harrisburg School District Governance Law
The Pennsylvania Supreme Court issued a ruling today that upholds the law adopted by the Pennsylvania Legislature, and signed by then Governor Tom Ridge, that permitted a change in the governance of the Harrisburg School District from an elected school board to a board of control named by the Mayor and which gave the Mayor oversight of the District.

Mayor Establishes Fund For Visiting German Citizen Attacked By Pit Bulls; Woman Seriously Injured Saving Children From Dogs
Mayor Stephen R. Reed today announced that a special fund has been established by the city to help cover the medical costs of a heroic visiting German citizen who was badly injured in a multiple pit bull attack yesterday. The German visitor, 29-year old Karolin Stallcup of the 1600 block of Catherine Street in the city, has no medical insurance and had been scheduled to return to Germany this Friday.
