Mayor Announces New Date For Opening Night Festivities For Levitt Pavilion For The Performing Arts

City Joins U.S. Army’s Pays Program; Veterans To Receive Employment Consideration, Opportunities
U.S. Army veterans reentering the workforce after their military service comes to an end will have greater employment opportunities in Harrisburg, Mayor Stephen R. Reed today noted during an official signing ceremony that formalized Harrisburg’s participation in the U.S. Army’s Partnership for Youth Success(PaYS) Program. The Mayor was joined by Brigadier General Leslie Fuller of the U.S. Army Recruiting Command in formalizing the City/Military partnership.

Mayor Announces Nationally Known “Pieces Of A Dream” Jazz Band With Bassist Gerald Veasley As Feature Group For 4Th Annual Jazz Under The Stars On Saturday, June 28, 2003
Mayor Stephen R. Reed today announced that nationally renowned jazz band “Pieces of a Dream” with Bassist Gerald Veasley, will be the feature group at the Fourth Annual Jazz Under The Stars Festival, slated for Saturday, June 28, beginning at 6:30 p.m. in the new Levitt Pavilion for the Performing Arts in Reservoir Park. Sponsored by Citizens Bank and the City of Harrisburg, Jazz Under The Stars is part of a weeklong celebration of African American heritage and tradition.

New City/Comcast Television Studio Opens Downtown; City Government Access Station To Televise Fulltime Beginning June 1
Mayor Stephen R. Reed, joined by Governor Ed Rendell and Comcast regional Vice President Ed Pardini and members of Harrisbrg City Council, today dedicated the city’s new television studio and broadcast center at 223 Walnut Street. The state-of-the-art facility will be used by the city and Comcast’s flagship CN8 cable network, whose popular Comcast Newsmakers segments will be taped at the new production facility.

Mayor Presents Police Awards
Mayor Stephen R. Reed today gave official recognition to the outstanding efforts of more than 145 city police officers, citizens, public employees and others for actions ranging from saving lives to the capture of armed and dangerous criminal suspects. The awards program was begun by the Mayor in the 1980’s as a way for the city to recognize the many contributions to public safety of the city’s police officers, private citizens and others.

Postal Carriers To Collect Donated Food Door-To-Door This Saturday, May 10
Mayor Stephen R. Reed today joined members of the Harrisburg Branch 500 of the National Association of Letter Carriers and the U.S. Postal Service in kicking off the 2003 National Food Drive, which encourages the donation of non-perishable foodstuffs to the South Central Pennsylvania Food Bank and other regional food banks. The Harrisburg area drive is being conducted this Saturday, May 10, in association with the U.S. Postal Service and United Way of the Capital Region.

‘PNC Saturdays’ Summer Celebrations Announced
Mayor Stephen R. Reed and officials from the Harrisburg Downtown Improvement District Authority (HDIDA) today announced the free new summer concert series ‘PNC Saturdays’, slated for Center City Harrisburg’s Market Square from May through September. Joined by many of the sponsors, volunteers and coordinators of the popular downtown entertainment series, Reed and HDIDA Chairman Geoffrey McDowell said the ‘PNC Saturdays’ events will be held May 10, June 21, August 2, and September 13, each featuring different themes, family-oriented entertainment, foods arts, crafts and much more. The ‘PNC Saturdays’ Series, is focused on furthering the growing appeal of Harrisburg’s downtown as a destination for the arts, dining, children’s activities and live entertainment.
