CITY HOLIDAY DECORATING CONTEST WINNERS ANNOUNCED

Harrisburg, PA—An array of businesses, residential properties, children and city government center offices were recognized today by Mayor Stephen R. Reed as winners in various city holiday decorating contests. The winners were presented with their awards during a special holiday program in their honor at the Rev. Dr. M.L. King City Government Center. The decorating competitions were first created by the Mayor in 1995, to coincide with the city’s annual Holiday Parade, which annually kicks of the midstate’s Christmas/Hanukkah/Kwaanza/New Years season.

Reed said the winners of the Mayor’s Coloring Contest for city school children receive a special prizes and gift certificates, and include:

Kindergarten
1st Place – Manuel Rodriguez – Holy Family
2nd Place – Sharay Caulton – Hamilton School
3rd Place – James Mitchell II – Hansel & Gretel Learning Center
4th Place – Maliyah Turner – Marshall School

1st Grade
1st Place – Ashley Cruz – Downey School
2nd Place – Christopher Daniels – Camp Curtin
3rd Place – Brittany Porter – Ben Franklin
4th Place – Rudy Watson – Cathedral School

2nd Grade
1st Place – Cynthia Daniels – Hamilton School
2nd Place – Marc Rodriguez – St. Catherine’s School
3rd Place – Carly Amos – St. Margaret Mary’s School
4th Place – Cornelius McMullen – Shimmell School

Reed said the winners of the city’s various holiday decorating competitions, who receive special gift certificates to local restaurants, include:

3rd Place – John Kern – 221 Herr Street

Downtown
1st Place – Scarpe
2nd Place – Mary Sachs Building

3rd Place – Tax Enforcement Office
4th Place – Law Bureau

The Mayor also extended the city’s appreciation to various sponsors who provided gifts and other items to the various decorating contest winners, including MODE Weekly, Pizza Hut Restaurants, the Fire House Restaurant, Fisaga’s Res-taurant, Stocks on Second Street, and the city Department of Parks and Recreation.
