SEVEN COMMUNITY GROUPS AWARDED GRANTS
Harrisburg, PA—Mayor Stephen R. Reed today announced the award of grants to seven different community groups for projects ranging from providing shelter to displaced persons to fixing up and upgrading neighborhood centers.
Reed said the grants specifically go to:
- Habitat for Humanity, $80,660 for rehab of vacant structures and home repair assistance for 12 elderly and handicapped low income households;
- Mt. Pleasant Hispanic American Center in Allison Hill, $59,800 for electrical upgrades, wall and ceiling repair, and basement and window restoration;
- Hamilton Health Center in Uptown, $50,000, for flooring, repainting, handicap accessibility, stucco repair and correction of sewage system problems;
- Camp Curtin YMCA in Uptown, $100,000, for new windows, fencing Parking lot improvements and making lavatories handicap accessible;
- Keystone Community Mental Health Services for $12,000, for operations and services to the homeless;
- Shalom House for $30,000, for operations and services to the homeless;
- Christian Churches United for $57,000, for operations and services to the homeless.
The latest grants are part of a continuous series of allocations for human Services, housing rehabilitation and neighborhood renewal by the City, many of which have scoured additional private support for the same projects.
