CITY RECEIVES TOP NATIONAL BUDGET AWARDHarrisburg, PA—Mayor Stephen R. Reed today reported that the City of Harrisburg has received the top national budget award. It is the twelfth consecutive year that the City has received the distinctive national recognition, which is conferred by the respected Government Finance Officers’ Association (GFOA). An independent panel of Certified Public Accountants and fiscal experts reviewed the city’s budget documents before making the determination. Stephen J. Gautier, a director of the GFOA, said: “this award is the highest form of recognition in governmental budgeting and represents a significant achievement by the organization.” Harrisburg has also separately received the highest national award for fiscal reporting and accounting, known as the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting, making Harrisburg one of only two municipalities, out of over 2,500 in Pennsylvania, to attain the top two national fiscal awards.
