MAYOR ANNOUNCES 2002 ITALIAN LAKE CONCERT SERIESHarrisburg, PA — Mayor Stephen R. Reed today announced that the City of Harrisburg’s free Italian Lake Concert Series begins Sunday, July 21, and continues every Sunday afternoon through August 11. The popular concert series is sponsored and produced by the city and offers a diverse agenda of light international musical styles, beginning each week at 7:00 p.m. Reed said the Series begins Sunday, July 21, when the Greater Harrisburg Concert Band returns to Italian Lake for a command performance of show tunes, marches and contemporary and traditional symphonic music. The 40-member orchestra is comprised of professional musicians, music teachers and band directors from throughout Central Pennsylvania. On July 28, the popular Simple Gifts will perform an impressive variety of ethnic folk music, from Irish jigs to Klezmer melodies to Balkan dances. The artists’ chemistry infuses their music with energy, integrity and joy. The Dave Wilson Quartet, a top flight, experienced professional jazz group performs on August 4. The Quartet draws from sources both past and present to offer jazz in its purest sense. Song lists range from the traditional to the contemporary. The popular free series concludes on August 11 with the Philadelphia-based Klingon Klezmer. The seven-member ensemble is comprised of some of the Midatlantic U.S.’s best known jazz, funk, and Dixieland musicians, performing innovative Klezmer music with modern influences. XXX |
